Khaybar Day Trip: The Fortress and the Oasis

A day trip from Madinah to Khaybar to see Marhab Fortress, the old town and the palm oasis.

Madinah

We set off in the morning from Madinah north towards Khaybar, on a road lined with volcanic lava fields. We climb to Marhab Fortress, built on volcanic rock above the oasis, and hear the history of Khaybar and its forts. We then walk through the old town with its stone houses and among the oasis palms and springs, and have lunch in Khaybar before heading back. A long day for history and nature lovers; the climb to the fortress needs moderate fitness.
